Gwyn Pritchard: Ensemble Music for Six
for flute, clarinet, violin, viola, 'cello & piano 

In 1976 the composer/conductor Peter Wiegold asked me for a brief ensemble work to include in an event that he was conducting at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol. Being very pressed for time I adapted two movements from a set of piano miniatures that I had recently finished, and at various later dates, reaching up to 2003, freely adapted other pieces in the set, supplementing the original rather sparse piano pieces with newly composed materials. The result is this little four-movement piece which in many respects encapsulates much of what was musically important to me back in 1976, and also much that has remained important to me ever since.
